ReefLED 90/115 Suspension kit – Red Sea
The Red Sea ReefLED 90/115 Suspension Kit is an accessory designed to allow you to hang your ReefLED 90 or 115 lighting fixture rather than mounting it directly to the aquarium rim or using fixed arms. It’s a wire-hanging kit that lets the light be suspended from above (ceiling or structural beams) or from wall-mounted anchors, giving more flexibility in height and placement. The suspension setup is particularly useful for:
Rimless or open-top aquariums where tank-mounted arms are impractical or unsightly
Situations where you want easier access to the top of the tank (feeding, maintenance, etc.)
Adjusting the light height for optimal coral growth, spread, and aesthetic effects (shimmer, light diffusion, etc.)
Getting a cleaner, more minimal visual appearance, avoiding brackets or arms visible on the tank edges
The Red Sea ReefLED 90/115 Suspension Kit comes as a complete package with everything needed to securely hang your ReefLED light above your aquarium. Inside the box, you’ll find a custom adapter cover plate designed specifically for the ReefLED 90 and 115 models. This plate attaches seamlessly to the top of the light fixture and serves as the main anchor point for the suspension wires, ensuring both safety and balance.
You’ll also receive two LED mounting wires, which connect directly to the adapter plate and the lighting body. These provide a strong, stable link between the fixture and the main suspension cables.
The kit includes two primary suspension wires, each roughly 4 feet (about 1.2 meters) long. These high-grade, stainless steel cables are corrosion-resistant, built to withstand humid and salty marine environments. They allow you to adjust the hanging height easily and maintain even alignment across the aquarium.
To attach everything securely, Red Sea provides mounting hardware and ceiling bolts. These can be used to anchor the suspension points to the ceiling, an overhead beam, or other structural supports. Each piece is engineered for strength and stability, ensuring your ReefLED fixture remains safely in place.
The kit also features a quick-lock height adjustment mechanism, which makes it easy to fine-tune the position of the light. You can raise or lower the fixture with precision to achieve optimal illumination, light spread, and aesthetics for your reef tank setup.
Finally, installation tools and detailed instructions are included. These provide clear, step-by-step guidance to help you assemble and install the suspension kit quickly and safely, even if you have limited experience with mounting systems.

Specifications
Compatible Models: ReefLED 90 and ReefLED 115 (including G2 versions) from Red Sea.
Cable Length: The suspension wires tend to be approx. 4 ft (≈1.2-1.3 meters) long, allowing a fair amount of drop from ceiling or overhead structure.
Adjustability: The wires have quick-lock adjustment so you can set the height and level easily.
Materials: Corrosion-resistant metals (stainless steel or equivalent) for wires, bolts, and hardware, to handle humid / marine aquarium environments. Cover plate / adaptor likely of plastic or metal appropriate to match the light’s build.
Mounting Options: Ceiling mounting, possibly using anchors; hanging from shelf supports; also able to anchor to wall brackets in some setups.
Advantages
Height Flexibility: Being able to adjust height is valuable for coral health. Certain corals need high light (higher PAR), so dropping the light closer helps. Conversely, for mixed reef or for reducing shadows, raising can help with dispersion.
Cleaner Appearance: No bracket arms over the tank edges; less visual hardware on the tank rim. Particularly good for rimless tanks.
Better Access / Maintenance: Without a bulky mounting arm or brackets, top access (feeding, cleaning, water changes) is easier.
Improved Light Spread / Uniformity: Hanging centrally and at optimal height can reduce hotspots or shadows near tank edges.
Corrosion Resistance: Designed to handle marine environment (salt spray, humidity).
Limitations
Ceiling or Structural Support Needed: The ceiling or overhead beam must be able to safely hold the weight of the light plus the suspension hardware. If not, extra reinforcement or choosing another mounting option might be required.
Visual Lines: Even though it’s cleaner, you’ll have wires overhead which some people find less desirable than hidden arms or brackets.
Adjustment Effort: While quick-lock helps, making significant height changes might still require clearing space or accessing mounting points.
Vibration or Swing: Suspended fixtures may move slightly (from handling, drafts, etc.), which could be undesirable depending on stability of the setup.
Cost: Buying the suspension kit adds additional cost over a standard mounting arm/brace.
Here are steps and tips to install properly:
Choose Anchor Points
Select where you will attach the suspension wires. For ceiling mounts, ensure the joists or structural beams are strong and accessible. If using wall or overhead shelf, ensure those are solid and can take load.Mark & Drill Mounting Points
Measure carefully so that the light will hang centered over the tank. Mark where the ceiling bolts go. Use proper anchors if mounting into drywall or non-solid surfaces.Attach Adapter / Cover Plate to the ReefLED Unit
The kit supplies an adapter plate or cover that you affix to the light. Make sure it is aligned and securely fixed; this is your pivot/hang point.Connect LED Mounting Wires
These wires connect from the plate to the body/light as per instructions. Ensure all screws or fasteners are tight but not over-torqued (to avoid damaging housing or wiring).Hang Suspension Wires & Adjust Height
Attach the suspension wires to the ceiling anchors or mounting points, then use the quick-lock adjusters to set the height. Level the unit – use a level tool to check front-to-back and side-to-side.Secure Everything & Check Stability
After everything is hung and adjusted, test gently (without forcing) to see if there is any wobble or movement. Tighten bolts/anchors as needed.Ensure Proper Distance from Water Surface
For ReefLEDs, there is recommended maximum height from the water surface for effective PAR. Too high, and light intensity drops. Consult Red Sea spec sheets/manual for height vs. PAR values for ReefLED 90 or 115. (The manual gives surface PAR and drop at depth; the suspension kit lets you adjust to get good PAR across tank depth.)Cable Management & Safety
Make sure power cables are routed safely, not hanging in water splash zones, with strain relief if needed. Avoid salt corrosion on fasteners by rinsing or maintenance.
Technical Considerations
Light Spread & PAR vs Height: As you move the light farther from the surface, intensity decreases. You’ll need to find balance between spread (higher gives more even coverage) and intensity (lower may reduce PAR). The suspension kit gives flexibility here. The ReefLED 90 (or 115) specs show fairly high PAR at water surface (≈500 µmol/m²/s) which drops with depth.
Thermal / Ventilation: Suspending allows air to circulate under and around the light better than if it were mounted tightly on rims or arms, which helps with cooling.
Corrosion & Maintenance: Hardware will be in marine-humid air; bolts, wires, plate should be designed to resist rust. Periodic checks and occasional rinsing may help prolong lifespan.
Compatibility with ReefLED G2 / New Versions: The kit listings mention compatibility also with “G2” models for 90 / 115, meaning newer versions. Be sure yours matches the mount plate design used in those models.
