Description

Media Filter MINI 80 – Bubble Magus

The Media Filter MINI 80 by Bubble Magus

The Bubble Magus MINI 80 is a compact, fluidised media reactor designed for both marine and freshwater aquariums. It holds a small amount of media and keeps it gently tumbling, so that water passes evenly over filtering materials like biopellets, carbon, phosphate removers, or other chemical/biological media. Its design makes it especially useful in setups with limited space, or where only modest filtration enhancement is needed.

Internally, it offers about 500 ml of media volume. It comes with a WP600 pump, which runs at about 8.5 W (compatible with either 110 V or 220 V, depending on your region). The MINI 80 is available in versions both with a sponge pre-filter and without. The footprint is relatively small and the body height gives good vertical flow while keeping installation fairly simple.

Key Specifications

It has an internal media volume of roughly 0.5 litres, enough for modest filtration applications. The media is powered by a WP600 pump which uses approximately 8.5 watts, making its running costs modest. The MINI 80 is about 43.5 cm tall with a cylindrical body of around 11.5 × 11.5 cm, giving it a compact footprint. It comes in versions with a sponge filter or without, depending on how fine you want the pre-filtration.

Features & Benefits

  • Very compact design, which fits where larger reactors might not. Ideal for smaller sumps or filtration compartments.

  • Low power consumption (around 8.5 W) thanks to the WP600 pump, so it’s energy-efficient.

  • Flexibility of media use: you can use biopellets, carbon, phosphate removers, etc. The option to include a sponge or omit it allows you to tailor pre-filtration.

  • Good for both freshwater and marine use, thanks to materials and design that can handle saltwater conditions.

  • Simple construction, fewer parts to manage. The smaller media volume means easier maintenance and less media cost.

Things to Watch / Limitations of Media Filter MINI 80 – Bubble Magus

  • Because it only holds ~ 500 ml of media, it won’t be able to handle heavy bio-loads or very large tanks as effectively as bigger reactors.

  • The flow must be set correctly — too little, and media won’t fluidise well; too much may waste energy and cause turbulence.

  • Sponge pre-filter version will require more frequent cleaning to avoid flow being restricted.

  • Height and vertical drop need to work in your sump; although compact, you still need room for the height of the reactor.

  • Media cost, as with all reactors, for biopellets or other media, and wear/tear on pump over time.

Practical Tips

  • Use the version with sponge if your media is fine or tends to shed dust; otherwise, the version without sponge may give better performance for some media.

  • When you first load biopellets, rinse them well to remove dust/fines.

  • Start with a smaller amount of media, observe performance (nitrate / phosphate drops) before increasing.

  • Clean the pump, hoses, and pre-filter sponge regularly to avoid clogging and maintain good fluidisation.

  • Monitor water parameters (nitrates, phosphates) over time to see how effective the reactor is; adjust flow or media amount accordingly.

Installation is simple, and its quiet operation makes it a practical choice for filtration systems in small aquariums. Correct flow, regular cleaning and gradual media changes are key to keeping them working at their best.

Bubble Magus use an upward-flow design to keep biopellets or other filter media gently moving, which improves nitrate and phosphate removal and overall water quality.

If you’re looking for an efficient and discreet filtration solution for small aquariums, the Bubble Magus MINI filter is an excellent choice.
