The REEFER G3 systems combine superior infrastructure, deeper and wider dimensions, and smart lighting, filtration and circulation devices. This allows you to benefit from the full Red Sea ecosystem experience and be at ease knowing that all the essential equipment is included and compatible.

The REEFER 170 model is one of the smaller (but still substantial) units in the G3 family.

These are the design and engineering features intended to make the system robust, efficient, and reef friendly:

Ultra-clear glass with beveled edges — minimizes color distortion and provides clean aesthetics.
Rimless format (for 170 model) — the glass flows edge-to-edge without a top rim, offering a modern and open look.
Hydrodynamically optimized plumbing & piping — Red Sea redesigned the flow paths to reduce turbulence, reduce energy losses, and improve overall circulation performance.
ReefGate gate valve on downflow — allows precise flow regulation of the downflow, helping to maintain quiet operation and avoid overflow noise.
Silent downflow system — the inlet is enlarged and shaped to reduce turbulence and noise.
Overflow box & return plumbing — the central overflow box includes a removable surface skimmer comb, and the return outlets are curved to improve water distribution.
Fortified cabinet / stand — marine-spec plywood construction, moisture-resistant finishes, leveling feet, stainless steel hinges, epoxy paint, etc.
ReefMat / media compartment ready — the sump has a removable mechanical filtration area for filter socks, media cups, or Red Sea’s ReefMat roller filter (if added)

The supersized models include an elegant jet-black frame in the aquarium glass and superior aluminum super structure for extra fortification, and a slide-out control panel for easy mounting and access to controllers and other equipment. Advantages

Ready-made, high-quality foundation — you don’t have to design your plumbing, sump layout, or ATO from scratch.
Cleaner aesthetics & low noise — rimless glass, hidden plumbing, quiet downflow help maintain visual appeal and lower ambient noise.
Smart ATO + safety features — leak detection and automatic top-up are integral, which reduces manual maintenance effort and adds safety.
Flexibility — although many parts are included, the system is not “locked in” to specific lighting or circulation gear; you can upgrade or change those components later.

Points to Watch

You must supply lighting, pumps, skimmer, circulation gear, etc. The “system” includes structural and plumbing elements, but not all the active gear.
Size limitations — as the 170 is on the smaller side of reef systems, you’ll be limited in how many or how demanding corals and livestock you can support.
Transport & setup challenges — large glass aquariums, sumps, plumbing etc. must be handled carefully during transit and assembly.
Heat / lighting load — depending on the lighting you choose, heat management may become important (chillers, fans).
Flow / circulation design — you’ll want adequate turnover and distribution of flow within the display; choice of powerheads or wavemakers is key.
