Description
What Is the ReefSense Temperature Probe by Red Sea?
The ReefSense Temperature Probe is a digital temperature sensor made by Red Sea.
It’s part of the ReefSense family of probes, designed to integrate with Red Sea’s ReefControl system (Lite, Pro) as well as the ReefControl Power unit.
Technical Specs of ReefSense Temperature Probe
Accuracy & Precision
The probe is rated at ± 0.1 °C accuracy.
Because it’s digital, it avoids many of the drift or interference issues common with analog temperature sensors.
Durable Titanium Tip
The sensing tip is made of titanium, which is very resistant to corrosion in saltwater environments—making it suitable for reef aquariums.
Titanium helps with a fast thermal response and long probe life.
Interference-Free Digital Design
As a digital probe, it’s immune (or largely resistant) to electromagnetic interference (EMI) from other devices (pumps, lights, etc.), leading to more stable and reliable readings.
Calibration data is stored on the probe itself (i.e., “on-probe memory”), making it robust and more reusable.
Integration & Automation
Can be connected to a ReefControl Lite or Pro controller.
Also compatible directly with ReefControl Power — meaning you can use temperature readings to directly trigger devices (heater, chiller, or fan) on Power’s outlets.
In the ReefBeat app, you can:
View real-time temperature readings and history logs.
Create alert thresholds — e.g., receive a notification if the temp goes outside your “acceptable” range.
Automate equipment: e.g., turn on a fan or chiller if the water gets too warm, or switch on a heater if it drops too low.
Mounting & Placement
Probe should be fully submerged to get stable and correct readings.
Comes with a mounting option, so you can secure it in the place that makes sense for your system.
Calibration
It’s factory-calibrated by Red Sea.
While you don’t necessarily need to calibrate often, they recommend checking consistency against a reference thermometer periodically.

Use Cases of ReefSense Temperature Probe
Temperature Monitoring & Stability: One of the most critical parameters in a reef tank is temperature. This probe gives precise, real-time monitoring, helping you catch drifts early.
Smart Automation: By connecting to ReefControl + ReefBeat, you can automate your heating or cooling equipment. If the water gets too hot, a fan or chiller can kick on; if it drops, a heater can be triggered. This adds a safety layer and reduces manual intervention.
Alarm & Notification: You can receive notifications on your phone if the temperature goes outside your “safe” range — very useful when you’re away or sleeping.
Data Logging: Historical temperature logs help you see trends (e.g., daytime spikes from lights, night dips), which is valuable for optimizing your aquarium’s thermal management.
Things to Watch Out For ReefSense Temperature Probe
Requires ReefControl / ReefSense Ecosystem: The probe is designed to work within Red Sea’s ReefSense / ReefControl ecosystem. It’s not a standalone Bluetooth or Wi-Fi temperature sensor (unless you’re using it via ReefControl Power) — you’ll need the controller or Power unit.
Submersion Needed: For accuracy, the probe must be fully submerged. If placed in a poorly flowing or very stagnant area, readings may lag or be less representative.
Placement Sensitivity: Because temperature can vary in different parts of your system (sump vs main tank, return flow vs display), placement matters a lot. Incorrect placement can lead to misleading readings.
Cost: As a precision digital probe, it’s more expensive than simple analog thermometers. But the added integration and automation capabilities may justify the cost depending on your setup.
Summary
The ReefSense Temperature Probe (R35825) is a highly accurate, saltwater-safe digital sensor for reef aquariums.
It uses a titanium tip for durability and rapid response.
Integrates deeply into the ReefControl / ReefBeat ecosystem to enable real-time monitoring, data logging, alerts, and automation.
Provides ± 0.1 °C accuracy, which is very good for reef applications.
Best used when fully submerged in a representative flow path, and works great when paired with automated heating/cooling gear.
