ReefRun Dual DC Pump Red Sea Controller

Silent. Powerful. Smart.

The ReefRun Dual DC Pump Controller by Red Sea is the central “brain” that brings full smart control to the ReefRun G2 pump family (and compatible DC skimmers). Rather than relying solely on the built-in flow controller of each pump, the Dual Controller allows you to coordinate, schedule, and monitor up to two DC devices (return pumps, skimmers, or both) via a unified interface. This raises the system from standalone hardware to an interconnected, automated ecosystem when paired with Red Sea’s ReefBeat platform. It is positioned as the upgrade path for anyone using ReefRun equipment who wants to gain finer control over modes like feed, maintenance, wave patterns, or emergency fallback—all while keeping the local/manual override capabilities intact.

The ReefRun Dual Controller supports two independent channels (i.e. two devices) and communicates with the ReefBeat app for remote control, scheduling, and alerts.

It is compatible with ReefRun DC return pumps and ReefRun (or Reef-compatible) DC skimmers, enabling mixed device control (pump + skimmer) or dual pump setups.

Among the operating modes it supports are:

  • Constant Flow (steady output)

  • Feed Mode (reduce or stop pump output during feeding)

  • Wave / Pulse Mode (for closed-loop or variable flow installations)

  • Custom Modes (user-defined flow schedules)

  • Emergency / Maintenance Modes (fallback behaviors during system anomalies)

The controller acts as a middle layer: pumps can still be controlled locally (on/off, intensity) even if the internet or app connection is unavailable, making the system more robust.

According to its manual, the Dual Controller is required for operation of ReefRun DC pumps (i.e. the pumps depend on this controller for full functionality in many use scenarios).

Physically, the controller is not especially large. Its footprint is modest (published dimensions include roughly 5.1″ L × 4.1″ H)

Other features include:

  • Mounting bracket included for fixed installation.

  • Each output is independent, meaning you can run different profiles or modes on each connected device.

  • Integration with ReefBeat app provides real-time alerts (e.g. if pumps are blocked, running dry, disconnected) and scheduling intelligence.

If you’re using one or more ReefRun DC pumps (or compatible skimmers), the Dual Controller becomes a linchpin in gaining full system automation and coherence. It’s especially useful in setups where you want to:

  • Synchronize pump and skimmer behavior (e.g. ensure the return pump starts before the skimmer after a maintenance break)

  • Implement “feed” or “maintenance” modes easily across devices

  • Use variable flow or wave/pulse modes in closed-loop or advanced circulation schemes

  • Receive alerts if a pump fails, runs dry, or becomes blocked

  • Adjust flow profiles over time (morning ramp-ups, nighttime slow-downs, etc.)

Because it supports two devices, the Dual Controller is cost-efficient: you can run a return pump + skimmer or dual return pumps without needing two separate controllers.

Another useful trait: even if your network or app goes down, the controller falls back to local control, so your pumps keep functioning at baseline. This adds resilience to your system.

In systems where redundancy or complexity is a factor (large reefs, long plumbing, multiple devices), the controller’s ability to sequence start-up, prioritize devices, and throttle flow is a big advantage. For example, after a maintenance pump shutdown, the controller can delay turning on the skimmer until water levels stabilize.

One caveat: the controller must be appropriately mounted, protected from splash, and positioned so wiring (to pumps, to power, to network) is convenient. Also, make sure firmware stays updated so you benefit from Red Sea’s improvements or bug fixes.

In summary, the ReefRun Dual DC Pump Controller transforms isolated ReefRun devices into a coordinated, intelligent system—allowing flexibility, automation, and integrated monitoring with the future-ready ReefBeat ecosystem.

Efficient. Quiet. Smart.

The powerful ReefRun G2 models range from 4,000 LPH to an impressive 12,000 LPH.
As part of the Red Sea ReefBeat App ecosystem, they benefit from smart features like automated daily schedules with adjustable intensities, a pulse mode for closed-loop wave installations, and notifications if the pump is running dry or blocked.

Flow Controller

The controller allows you to manually turn the pump ON and OFF and adjust its intensity without an internet connection, enabling you to use the pump either independently or as part of the ReefBeat App ecosystem (via the ReefRun Dual Controller).
