• In a moderately stocked reef system, a 32 m roll is generally expected to last 5 to 8 weeks (about 1–2 months) under typical conditions.

• Systems with bare-bottom setups (i.e. no substrate) or high particulate loads (heavy feeding, high bioload) will consume the roll more quickly.

• After installing a new roll, the usage (i.e. how often the roll advances) may be somewhat higher in the early weeks, as the system transitions to a new filtration regimen.

• The roll should be replaced when it is fully used (i.e. no more fleece left to advance) or if mechanical problems (tearing, jamming) occur.

How It Works in the ReefMat System

• Water flows through the fleece in the ReefMat’s filter chamber. The fleece captures suspended solids, fine detritus, and other particulates.

• As the fleece surface becomes clogged and restricts flow, the sensor/drive mechanism in ReefMat triggers advancement of the roll, exposing a fresh section of fleece.

• This automated advance reduces the need for frequent manual cleaning or filter pad replacement, helping maintain consistent water clarity.

• When the 32 m roll is depleted, the user must replace it with a new RM 250 roll, ensuring proper tension, alignment, and threading to avoid operational issues.
