Hydra 64: The 9 main changes of the most powerful LED lamp
About HYDRA 64:
It is not an exaggeration to say that the new line of AquaIllumination LED lights—Hydra 64HD, Hydra 32HD, and a multitude of Prime 16HD variants—are the most powerful and latest innovations from the company to date. In addition to the completely redesigned LED cluster, the new Hydra and Prime models look very similar to their predecessors, but they feature many improved details that you won’t find in the updated specification sheets.

Power cable connection: This improvement seems obvious in retrospect, as having the power connection directly on the device above the water was probably not the best design choice. To address any potential moisture issues, the Hydra 64HD now has the power cable connected directly to the device, with the connection upstream from the power source.
Repositioned power button: Another design feature that was not very convenient in the previous generation of Hydra was having the status indicator and control button on the back of the device. The control button and status indicator are now integrated into one and placed at the bottom of the device, making both access to the button and viewing the light status much more accessible.
A slimmer device: The first thing you’ll notice about the new AquaIllumination Hydra 64HD is that it is slimmer than the previous version. Over time, the Hydra inherited the general shape of the first model in the series, the old AI SOL.
Increased water resistance: Together, the slimmer device, repositioned button, direct power cable connection, and even the way the "front" is attached to the main heatsink have all been redesigned with improved water resistance in mind. Due to the fan required for cooling, none of the aquarium reef LED lights are fully waterproof, but it doesn’t hurt to ensure that these lights become more resistant to water and humidity with each iteration.
Improved internal components and processors: One thing that is impossible to detect without opening the AquaIllumination Hydra 64HD accessory is that it features completely updated electronic components inside. Everything, from the microprocessor to the controllers and even the wireless chips, is the latest and best, meaning this lamp can be connected through channels other than Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
Almost instant startup: All the updated silicone isn't just for gaining an advantage—the faster processor and new Wi-Fi and Bluetooth radios mean that you can access the lamp even more quickly, connect, program, and control it faster, giving you more time to adjust color channels and spectrum or simply enjoy your reef aquarium.
MORE LEDs!!! – It would be hard to overlook the fact that, as the name suggests, the new AquaIllumination Hydra 64HD has more light-producing diodes than ever before. Using the same LED cluster across the entire line, AquaIllumination has added three more diodes to each group. These LEDs are very small, yet highly efficient, and also a newer generation of diodes that operate with a more efficient current, making the new generation of AI lights an absolute powerhouse of light.
Dedicated moonlight channel: You can always reduce the power of any channel in the AquaIllumination LED light line to such a low level that it works as a moonlight, but now there is a dedicated LED and moonlight channel specifically for it. Interestingly, this moonlight channel is in the warm white spectrum, just like real sunlight and the reflected light of the moon, to replicate a natural "twilight" effect of what true moonlight looks like. However, these small moonlight LEDs are not included in the LED count because "Hydra 68" doesn’t sound as good as "Hydra 64HD," but they are there.
Better color mixing: Perhaps the most important result of these much smaller and numerous LEDs is the ability to group them much more closely together. With light coming from a very small surface that groups the LEDs into an area 25% smaller than the previous distribution, it means that color mixing should be better, without the need for a true multi-chip LED. Certainly, the red and green diodes may still stand out to some extent, but the "disco ball" effect should be so minimal that it is practically imperceptible.

The AquaIllumination Hydra 64HD brings multiple significant improvements over previous models. The design is slimmer, and the direct power cable connection reduces the risk of issues caused by moisture. The power button has been repositioned for better accessibility, and water resistance has been optimized.
