Description
What Is the ReefControl Power 6?
The ReefControl Power 6 is an intelligent power-distribution module made by Red Sea. It’s part of the ReefBeat ecosystem, designed to give you smart control over up to six AC devices in your reef aquarium.
It’s not just a dumb power strip: it’s networked (via ReefBeat), supports automation via sensors, and measures power consumption per outlet.
Capabilities of ReefControl Power 6
6 Independent Outlets
There are six separately controlled outlets, each programmable.
You can schedule each outlet, tie it to “scenarios” (automation routines), or link them to sensors (via ReefSense) so they turn on/off based on sensor readings.
Real-Time Power Monitoring
Each outlet’s power consumption is measured in real time.
This helps you optimize energy use, detect abnormal draw (which could indicate a problem), and improve safety.
Integration with ReefBeat & ReefSense
Works within the ReefBeat app for full control: turn sockets on/off, program schedules, set automation rules, and monitor.
It can integrate with ReefSense digital sensors (like temperature probes, leak detectors, etc.) to trigger actions — for example, if a leak is detected, Power 6 can immediately switch off certain outlets.
Can operate “standalone” when paired with just a ReefSense Temperature probe — even without a full controller, Power 6 can act on temperature to, say, manage a heater or fan.
Total Power Capacity
For the EU version: six outlets, with a maximum total power rating of 3,680 W.
Version / Optional Control Panel (Deluxe)
There is a Deluxe version (“Power 6 Deluxe”) that includes a separate manual control panel with backlit physical switches for each socket.
The backlit buttons help you quickly see which outlets are active — handy when you have wet hands or are doing maintenance.
The panel connects directly to the Power 6 module.
Safety & Automation Features
You can define “emergency routines”: e.g., if a sensor detects a problem (like a leak, or a high temp), Power 6 can cut power to certain sockets.
Overload protection is built in (or at least the system is designed with safe handling in mind).
You can program up to 10 on/off periods per day for each socket via the app.
Historical Data / Trends
Through the app, you can review logs and trends: e.g., how much power each outlet has drawn over time.
This data helps with optimizing power usage and diagnosing potential issues (old/misaligned equipment, failing devices, etc.).

Use Cases of ReefControl Power 6
Automation & Safety
Use the Power 6 to automatically power down equipment when abnormal sensor readings occur (e.g., leak, over-temp).Routine Power Management
Automate daily cycles: lighting, circulation pumps, chiller, skimmer, dosing pumps, etc.Energy Monitoring
Track how much power each device is using — useful in both hobby and semi-professional setups to optimize your energy consumption.Redundancy / Backup Control
With a connected temperature probe, you can let Power 6 act as a backup thermostat (turn on a fan or shut off a heater if temp thresholds are crossed).Manual Control During Maintenance
With the Deluxe control panel, you can manually switch devices on/off easily while working on the sump or doing maintenance, without using the app.
Strengths of ReefControl Power 6
Highly Flexible: Each outlet is individually controllable and programmable.
Smart & Connected: Deep integration with the ReefBeat ecosystem and ReefSense sensors.
Power Monitoring: Real-time data per outlet — helps with safety and efficiency.
Scalable Automation: You can build complex “if-this-then-that” routines using sensor input.
Manual Override Option: The Deluxe panel gives physical control when needed.
Support for Non-Red Sea Equipment: You’re not limited to just Red Sea gear; Power 6 works with third-party devices.
Considerations of ReefControl Power 6
Cost: As a “smart” power board, it's more expensive than a standard power strip.
Complexity: The automation setup might be overkill for simple systems; beginners may not need all features.
Wi-Fi / Network Dependency: To fully use its capabilities (especially remote control and alerts), you need a reliable Wi-Fi / network via ReefBeat.
Power Limits: Although 3,680 W is a lot, very high-power devices or many devices may approach limits — planning is needed.
Installation: You need to mount the module and (if using Deluxe) the control panel; wiring should be clean and safe.
App Reliance: Many features (scheduling, monitoring) are accessed via the ReefBeat app — if the app has issues, it could affect usability for power control.
Summary
The Red Sea ReefControl Power 6 is a smart, controlled power hub for aquariums, especially reef setups.
It gives you six individually controllable outlets, real-time power monitoring, and automation tied to ReefSense sensors.
Through the ReefBeat app, you can schedule devices, create sensor-based rules, and track your power usage.
The Deluxe version adds a manual, backlit control panel for quick physical access to each socket.
It’s ideal for hobbyists who want to centralize and automate their power management — especially in systems with many devices or important safety needs.
