ReefRun G2 DC 8000 Pump

Silent. Powerful. Smart.

The ReefRun G2 8000 DC Pump belongs to Red Sea’s second-generation ReefRun series, designed to deliver high flow, robust head, and quiet, energy-efficient operation for larger reef or marine systems. As the more powerful mid-option (between the 6000 and 12000 models), it is aimed at setups that need strong return flow or more aggressive circulation. Although this version is sold without the external controller, it still retains an integrated flow controller for manual adjustment and basic operation. If paired later with the ReefRun Dual Controller, it can be fully integrated into Red Sea’s ReefBeat ecosystem, giving you scheduling, monitoring, alerts, and customization. The G2 8000 model gives hobbyists a balance of power and flexibility while allowing future expansion into smart control.

Efficient. Quiet. Smart.

The powerful ReefRun G2 models range from 4,000 LPH to an impressive 12,000 LPH.
As part of the Red Sea ReefBeat App ecosystem, they benefit from smart features like automated daily schedules with adjustable intensities, a pulse mode for closed-loop wave installations, and notifications if the pump is running dry or blocked.

Flow Controller

The controller allows you to manually turn the pump ON and OFF and adjust its intensity without an internet connection, enabling you to use the pump either independently or as part of the ReefBeat App ecosystem (via the ReefRun Dual Controller).

Dimensions

The ReefRun G2 8000 offers an adjustable flow range between about 1080 and 2200 U.S. gallons per hour (GPH) (roughly 4100 to 8300 liters per hour)

Its maximum head (vertical lift capability) is approximately 17.4 feet (5.3 meters)

In terms of power consumption, it typically draws between 24 and 73 watts, depending on the flow setting

Dimensionally, many listings show the 8000 having similar footprint to the 6000 model: about 8.2″ length × 4.7″ width × 5.2″ height

The pump comes with a 10-foot (≈ 3 m) power cable

For plumbing, the pump supports PVC adapters (1 inch), hose barbs (1 inch / 1¼ inch), and a male threaded 1-inch gas fitting

The outlet can rotate 180°, enabling flexibility in plumbing alignment, and the pump design includes an inlet flow guide (to reduce surface air intake)

Like the rest of the G2 series, it uses advanced sine-wave / smooth DC motor technology for quiet operation, and features soft-start, giving the plumbing a gradual ramp up rather than a sudden jolt when power is applied

Silent

The pumps’ advanced Sine wave DC motor technology ensures virtually silent operation from the very start, even when running at 100%.

Energy-efficient.

The ReefRun G2 8000 is well suited for medium to large reef tanks, or setups demanding stronger return flow, closed-loop circulation, or parallel pump configurations. Because of its high head (5.3 m) it can more easily handle taller plumbing runs, sumps placed significantly below the display level, or longer pipe runs with many fittings, while still delivering good flow.

At lower flow settings, it remains reasonably efficient in power draw, making it practical for continuous use without excessive electricity costs. Its quiet operation under load also makes it suitable for installations in living areas where noise control is important.

The rotatable outlet and multiple plumbing fittings make it relatively easy to integrate into both metric and imperial plumbing setups. The inlet guide design helps reduce issues with surface air being drawn into the pump — beneficial in setups where water level might fluctuate or surface turbulence is present.

In installations where you may later want automation, you can start with simple manual (integrated) control and then add the ReefRun Dual Controller to unlock full smart control via the ReefBeat app — enabling scheduled flow changes, feed/maintenance modes, real-time alerts (e.g. dry run or blockage), and advanced scenarios.

Maintenance is straightforward: the pump is designed for easy access to the impeller and rotor for cleaning. Regular upkeep (removing debris, checking for wear) is essential to sustain its performance over time.

In summary, the ReefRun G2 8000 DC Pump (w/o controller) offers a robust, flexible solution for aquarists needing significant return flow, with the option to scale into smart automation later — all while balancing quietness, efficiency, and usability.
