Description

Seawater Refractometer with ATC – D-D

The D-D True Seawater Refractometer is a precision instrument specifically designed for accurately measuring the salinity and specific gravity (SG) of natural seawater in marine aquariums. Unlike standard refractometers calibrated for sodium chloride (brine) solutions, this device accounts for the presence of other ions like magnesium and calcium, ensuring more accurate readings for natural seawater.

Key Features:

  • True Seawater Calibration: Calibrated to reflect the refractive index of natural seawater, providing accurate salinity readings without the need for conversion factors.

  • Auto Temperature Compensation (ATC): Equipped with a bimetallic strip that adjusts the reading scale in response to temperature changes, ensuring consistent accuracy within a range of 10°C to 30°C

  • Enhanced Scale Resolution: Features a 0–40 ppt salinity scale, focusing on the 30–40 ppt range common in marine aquariums, offering 2.5 times the resolution of standard 0–100 ppt scales.

  • Copper Body Construction: Built with a copper internal body for superior thermal conductivity, allowing faster temperature equilibration and more precise ATC performance

Calibration & Usage Tips

  • Calibration Temperature: Calibrate the refractometer at 20°C (68°F), which is standard for most refractometers and close to average room temperature.

  • Calibration Solutions: Use a 35 ppt calibration fluid for best results. Alternatively, reverse osmosis (RO) water can be used for zero-point calibration, though its purity must be ensured to avoid inaccuracies.

  • Light Source: For accurate readings, use a light source that closely resembles daylight, as the refractive index is dependent on the wavelength of light
