Description
Ocean Nutrition Seaweed Clips (Twin Pack)
The Seaweed Clips by Ocean Nutrition are aquarium accessories designed to hold sheets or pieces of seaweed (macroalgae food) underwater, in a fixed position, so that herbivorous or grazing fish can feed naturally over time. Rather than having the seaweed float around or be eaten all at once, these clips keep the food anchored, promoting more stable, gradual grazing behavior.
They come as a twin pack (2 clips) in most cases.
Specifications of Seaweed Clips by Ocean Nutrition
Underwater Compatibility
The clips are fully waterproof and designed for underwater use inside your aquarium.Suction Cup Attachment
Each clip has a suction cup base that allows it to be affixed to the interior surface of glass or acrylic tank walls. This keeps the clip stable and holds the food in the desired spot.Strong Grip & Extended Gripping Surface
Compared to many generic aquarium clips, these are engineered with a stronger grip zone and a longer gripping face, so they can hold seaweed more securely without letting it slip.Material & Visibility
The clips tend to be made of transparent or clear plastic, which helps them hide in the tank and not detract from the visual appearance.Dimensions / Size
While detailed dimensions (e.g. clip length, clamping width) are not always advertised, the product is often described as ~2 inches in height for the clip itself.
The gripping and suction portions are long enough to handle folded seaweed sheets of standard feeding size.Intended Use / Compatibility
These clips are suitable for both marine and freshwater aquariums, as long as there are fish or species that graze on algae/seaweed.
They are commonly used to offer Ocean Nutrition’s Seaweed Selects (dried macroalgae food) but can hold other seaweed sheets or similar food items.
They are especially useful for algae-grazing fish, such as tangs, rabbitfish, marine angelfish, wrasses, damsels, etc.Feeding Period / Duration
The clip is intended to allow the fish to graze over extended periods (up to ~ 24 hours). After that, any leftover seaweed should be removed.
How to Use Them the Seaweed Clips
Clean the Clip Thoroughly
Before each use, rinse or scrub the clip to remove any residue, debris, or algae buildup so it grips properly.Prepare the Seaweed
Tear off a piece (commonly ~2 in × 3 in or equivalent), then fold it once or twice so it fits securely in the clip jaws.Insert and Clamp
Place the seaweed between the clip’s jaws or gripping surfaces, ensuring it’s held firmly but not crushed or torn.Attach to Tank Wall
Use the suction cup to affix the clip to the interior side of glass or acrylic, at a position where fish can easily reach it but it’s not interfering with movement or hardware.Allow Grazing
Leave the seaweed for fish to feed over time, allowing them to pick bits off naturally. The idea is gradual feeding rather than instant consumption.Monitor and Reattach / Remove
If parts of the seaweed break off or detach, reattach them or adjust the clip.
After ~24 hours, remove uneaten bits to prevent decay or fouling.
Routine Use
These clips are also handy during vacations or when you cannot feed by hand; the clipped seaweed remains stable and accessible to fish over time.
Advantages
Promotes natural grazing behavior, replicating how fish would feed in the wild by nibbling gradually rather than all at once.
Keeps the seaweed from floating away, drifting, or being lost, so feeding is more efficient.
Having two clips offers flexibility (you can feed in two locations, stagger feeding, or have a backup).
Strong grip and longer clip surface reduce the chance of the seaweed slipping.
Transparent / discreet design makes them less obtrusive in the aquarium’s appearance.
Useful during absences (vacation) as feeding can continue passively.
Potential Limitations
The grip, though strong, might struggle with very large or thick seaweed sheets; you may need to fold or trim the seaweed to fit.
The suction cup must be properly sealed to the tank wall — if the surface is dirty, curved, or irregular, it may lose grip.
Over time, algae or biofilm may build up on the clip, reducing its grip — regular cleaning is essential.
Clip position matters: if placed too deep or too high, fish may not reach it comfortably, or the lighting / flow might impact algae texture or health.
If left more than ~24 hours, uneaten seaweed can deteriorate, foul water, or attract unwanted growth. This is why removal or replacement is advised after that period.
In highly competitive or aggressive setups, some fish might monopolize the clipped seaweed, preventing others from feeding.
