Description

What is the Trident NP

The Trident NP is an automated water quality analyzer specifically built for saltwater (marine/reef) aquariums. Its purpose is to take frequent, reliable measurements of two key nutrient parameters — nitrates (NO₃) and phosphates (PO₄) — without the need for manual test kits, color charts or frequent human intervention. It seamlessly integrates with Neptune Systems’ Apex controllers (A3/A2 series) and feeds data directly into the Apex Fusion interface for monitoring, alerting, and automation.

Why It Matters

Maintaining proper nitrate and phosphate levels is essential in reef aquariums because excess nutrients can fuel undesirable algae growth, stress corals, and destabilize the ecosystem. Typically, hobbyists test these parameters manually — this can be time‑consuming, inconsistent, and often missed. The Trident NP automates nutrient testing daily, helping hobbyists track trends and react sooner to water quality changes.

Automated Daily Testing

  • Daily Tests: Automatically performs at least one nitrate and phosphate test per day on the default schedule, though additional tests can be initiated manually.

High Precision & Accuracy

  • Nitrate: Measured with a precision of ±1 ppm or ±5% of reading, whichever is higher.

  • Phosphate: Measured with ±0.01 ppm or ±5% of reading precision.

These precision levels give you lab‑grade data far more consistently than most hobby manual test kits.

Apex Integration & Alerts

The Trident NP communicates directly with your Neptune Apex controller (any A3 or A2 model: Apex Pro, Apex, Apex Jr., Apex EL). That means:

  • Test results sync with Apex Fusion, Neptune’s cloud dashboard and app.

  • You can see results and historical graphs on your phone or computer.

  • Set custom high/low alerts so you get notified if nitrate or phosphate levels leave your target range — useful if you’re away from home.

How It Works The Trident NP

The Trident NP uses automated titration and colorimetric detection — a method similar to laboratory instruments — to analyze aquarium water:

  • Water Sample: About 30 ml of aquarium water is drawn for each test.

  • Reagents: The chemical reagents for the test are stored inside the unit and changed periodically (usually around every two months on a standard schedule).

  • Waste Handling: Used sample and reagent waste is routed to a separate container or drain — it is never returned to the aquarium, reducing salinity fluctuation risk.

Setup & Requirements

  • Controller Needed: The Trident NP must be connected to a Neptune Apex controller — it cannot operate standalone. Compatible controllers include A3 Apex and A2 Apex families.

  • Included Items: Typically ships with a 1LINK cable and a drip tray; reagent kits are sold separately and required to run tests.

Setup is generally plug‑and‑play, with guided configuration available through Apex Fusion — from unboxing to first test is often under 10 minutes.

Specifications

  • Testing Range:
    • Nitrate: 0–100 ppm
    • Phosphate: 0–2.0 ppm

  • Test Frequency: One test per day (additional on demand).

  • Water Used Per Test: Approx. 30 ml.

  • Dimensions: ~ 9.8″ × 12.4″ × 4.9″ (≈ 25 × 31.5 × 12.5 cm).

  • Weight: ~1.8 kg.

Practical Benefits

✔ Daily, consistent data: Tracks nutrient trends over time to help you understand and manage your reef ecology.
✔ Remote visibility & alerts: Through Apex Fusion, you can monitor your aquarium’s nutrient levels anytime and get notified instantly if something drifts out of range.
✔ Less manual testing: Eliminates weekly test strip or kit chores, saving time and reducing human error.
✔ Ideal for sensitive systems: Especially useful for SPS‑dominant, low‑nutrient, or algae‑sensitive reef environments where tight nutrient control matters.

Considerations

  • Reagents are required and sold separately — plan to buy reagent kits to keep the unit running.

  • Needs an Apex controller — if you don’t already have one, that’s an additional investment.
