What is the 2‑month Trident reagent kit

The 2‑month Trident reagent kit is a replacement chemical supply kit for Neptune Systems’ automated water analyzers (such as the original Trident for alkalinity/calcium/magnesium, or the Trident NP for nitrate and phosphate testing). These reagents are consumed during the analyzer’s automated test cycles and must be replaced at regular intervals to keep your unit operating with consistent, accurate readings.

Duration & Testing Capacity

This kit is designed to last approximately two months when you’re running your analyzer on its default daily testing schedule:

  • For the standard Trident (alkalinity, calcium, magnesium):
    • ~240 alkalinity tests
    • ~120 calcium tests
    • ~120 magnesium tests
(based on 4 alkalinity, 2 calcium, and 2 magnesium tests per day)

  • For the Trident NP (nitrate & phosphate):
    • ~60 nitrate tests
    • ~60 phosphate tests
(based on one test per parameter per day)

Because reagents degrade with air exposure and over time, regular replacement ensures your analyzer maintains precision and avoids false readings.

What’s Included

A typical 2‑month reagent kit (for either the standard Trident or the Trident NP variant) includes:

For Standard Trident (Alk/Ca/Mg):

  • 2 × Reagent A – primary reagent for tests (changed every month)

  • 1 × Reagent B – used in calcium/magnesium chemistry (lasting two months)

  • 1 × Reagent C – used in calcium/magnesium chemistry (lasting two months)

  • 1 × Seawater Calibration Sample – used to calibrate the analyzer for accurate results

For Trident NP (Nitrate & Phosphate):

  • 1 × NP Reagent 1

  • 1 × NP Reagent 2

  • 1 × NP Reagent 3a + 1 × NP Reagent 3b (mixed together as part of the analytical chemistry)

  • 1 × Calibration Reference Solution – to calibrate test accuracy

  • 1 × Waste Neutralizer – safely neutralizes test waste before disposal

(Note: contents differ because the underlying chemistry for nitrate/phosphate testing is distinct from alkalinity/calcium/magnesium chemistry.)

Why It Matters

  1. Reliable Results: Fresh reagents ensure your Trident unit continues to produce precise and repeatable test results for whatever parameters you’re monitoring.

  2. Calibration Support: The included calibration solution lets you routinely calibrate the system so readings are aligned with true aquarium values.

  3. Simple Replacement: Swapping out reagents is quick — the bottles fit directly into the Trident’s reagent drawer and take just minutes to change.

  4. Prevents Drift: Old or depleted reagents can produce inaccurate results; replacing them on schedule helps avoid parameter drift and potential misdiagnosis of your aquarium’s condition.

Tips for Use

  • Replace reagents on schedule: For best accuracy, swap out reagents at the recommended interval (roughly every two months for NP kits).

  • Store correctly: Keep unused reagent bottles sealed and within the manufacturer’s recommended temperature range.

  • Discard waste safely: When disposing of used reagents and test waste, follow local regulations — some kits include waste neutralizers for safety.

  • Recalibrate when you replace reagents: It’s good practice to calibrate the Trident after installing new reagents for reliable results.

The 2‑month Trident reagent kit is an essential consumable for aquarium keepers using Neptune’s automated testing systems. It supplies all the necessary chemicals and calibration solutions to let your analyzer perform daily tests accurately over a two‑month period — whether you’re tracking alkalinity, calcium, magnesium, nitrate, or phosphate. Regular reagent replacement means better data, fewer surprises, and a healthier aquatic environment overall.
