Hailea HC-1000-A Chiller 

The Hailea HC-1000-A is a high-capacity water chiller designed for serious aquarium or hydroponic setups that need reliable temperature control. It occupies a middle-to-upper tier in Hailea’s HC series, offering a strong balance of cooling power, precision, and build quality. It’s well suited for freshwater or saltwater tanks, larger volumes of water, or environments with higher ambient temperatures.

Design & Construction

  • The chiller uses an environmentally friendlier refrigerant, R134a, which is more modern and has a lower environmental impact than older refrigerants.

  • It has a metal (steel) chassis with a solid, durable build that offers good protection, including resistance to corrosion (especially useful for saltwater applications).

  • The heat exchanger / evaporator is made of pure titanium, which is highly corrosion-resistant, especially in marine environments. This helps prolong lifespan and reliability.

  • The design includes a digital temperature controller/display, which allows precise setting of the desired water temperature, with accuracy down to 0.1 °C in many units. The controller makes it easier to monitor and maintain consistent conditions.

Technical Specs

The HC-1000-A operates with a 1-horsepower compressor, providing enough power to reliably cool large volumes of water.   • Proper sizing is crucial: If used for tanks close to its upper limit (≈ 2,000 litres) or in hot ambient conditions, the unit will work hard. Under-sizing can lead to inefficiency, while over-sizing can mean wasted cost and possibly short-cycling.

  • Need for good flow and plumbing: To get the best performance you need pumps and plumbing capable of delivering the recommended flow rate (1,500-4,000 L/h). Insufficient flow reduces cooling effectiveness.

  • Ventilation and installation space matter: The unit needs good airflow around it so that the heat it rejects can dissipate. Poor ventilation will reduces performance and can increase wear.

  • Noise/vibration management: Even though the unit is designed for lower noise compared to some others, at high loads it will still make operational noise, and vibration might be transmitted through surfaces if not placed on vibration dampers or a stable base.
