Description
Aquarium Chiller Teco TK 2000
The Teco TK-2000 Chiller
The Teco TK-2000 is part of Teco’s “TANK” series of chillers (also known under SeaChill line) built for serious aquarium and hydroponic applications. It aims to combine high efficiency, durability, and precision temperature control, while using more environmentally friendly refrigerant. It’s designed for medium to large aquariums (or systems) and for users who value stability, build quality, and energy savings.
Efficient Cooling Technology
The exclusive use of high-quality and internationally accepted and of the titanium heat exchanger, ensures high performance and low energy consumption. The set of technologies used allow you to achieve the highest COP - coefficient of performance and the lowest noise levels.Digital thermostat
The setting of functions is intuitive and the temperature reading is accurate, resolution 0.1°C/1°F. The setting range is 5°-15°C (41°F-59°F) and the temperature is kept constant with a maximum differential of 0.5°C/0.5°F. Displayed temperature is in °C or °F and there are security alarms.Efficient Design
The chiller, with its innovative design, is characterized by a solid structure designed to guarantee a perfect protection against rust. The user will appreciate the functionality of the shape and the compact size also adaptable to confined spaces.Unique Features
The TK2000L is specially designed to work at low temperatures and is indispensable when the need arises to decrease and/or maintain the temperature in an aquatic habitat. It is the ideal cooler for keeping lobsters, lobsters etc. at the desired temperature.
Advantages of using Teco TK-2000 Chiller
Energy efficiency: The use of R-290 and modern compressor/heat exchanger design gives significantly better efficiency, meaning lower running costs vs older chillers.
Corrosion resistance and durability: Titanium exchanger prolongs life, especially with saltwater or mixing water with higher conductivity.
Wide control range & precision: Good thermostat control, with relatively tight differential, allows for stable temperature maintenance.
Good for moderate-to-large systems: Given its support for up to ~500 gallons, it’s suitable for medium/large aquariums or systems, and likely well matched for systems with moderate heat loads.
Compact footprint for its capacity: Given its cooling power, its dimensions and weight are reasonable, making installation more flexible.
Limitations
Power draw: 440 W is significant; for continuous running or in hot ambient conditions the electricity cost may add up.
Ambient & heat load dependency: Performance will degrade if ambient temperature is high, or heat sources (lighting, pumps, etc.) are strong; unit may have to work harder.
Flow rate requirement: To get optimal performance, water flow must stay within the required minimum/maximum. Undersized pumps or restrictive plumbing reduce efficiency.
Noise & ventilation: Like most chillers, positioning matters (ventilation, airflow around the unit). If enclosed or poorly ventilated, the chiller’s efficiency and lifespan may suffer.
Initial cost: Higher purchase cost, but offset somewhat by energy savings over time.
Ideal Use Cases
Aquariums in the 130-500 gallon range, especially saltwater reef tanks where maintaining low and stable temperature is crucial.
Hydroponic or aquaponic systems with moderate to high heat loads, especially in warmer climates or indoor grow rooms.
Users who want lower environmental impact (via refrigerant choice) combined with high performance and stability.
Situations where you have a technical cabinet or system room with enough space and airflow, so noise and heat exhaust are less of an issue.
Hobbyists or professionals who prefer durable equipment with long service life, especially in tougher conditions (saltwater, high use).
Overall Verdict
If what you want is reliable, long-term temperature stability, with well-engineered components and modern refrigerant technology, then the TECO TK Series is a solid investment. For serious hobbyists, reef keepers, or anyone who can’t tolerate large temperature swings, the improved efficiency, precision, and durability make these chillers worth the cost.
However, if your aquarium is small, ambient conditions mild, or budget tight, one of the smaller TECO models (or even a less premium brand) might suffice — as long as you size properly, ensure airflow & water flow, and maintain the unit well.
