Hailea HC series liquid chillers
The Hailea HC 300-A Chiller
The Hailea HC 300-A is a mid-capacity water chiller designed for aquariums or hydroponic systems where stable cooling is essential but requirements are not as large as industrial setups. It sits between smaller chillers like HC-100-A/150-A and larger models like HC-500-A/1000-A in terms of cooling capacity.
It’s built with Hailea’s standard robust design, combining durability, corrosion resistance, and precise control over temperature. The unit uses high-quality components (notably a titanium heat exchanger) and a digital controller to help maintain stable water temperature. It is suitable for both freshwater and saltwater applications, thanks to corrosion-resistant materials and good build quality.
Technical Specs
The HC-300-A uses a ¼ horsepower (HP) compressor.
It operates on voltages around 220-240 V at 50 Hz (some sources may list 60 Hz depending on the country or version).
The working current is approximately 1.8 A in many listings.
Recommended water flow through the chiller is between 1,000 and 2,500 litres per hour (L/h) to achieve optimal cooling performance.
The unit is rated for aquarium or system volumes of around 300 litres under standard conditions. In some references, it may be suggested for slightly more (depending on ambient temperature/interior heat load) but 300 L is the nominal capacity.
Hose outlets are dual-size: 19 mm and 25 mm fittings are available.
The heat exchanger is made from pure titanium, which helps resist corrosion, especially important for saltwater use.
The refrigerant used is R-134a, an environmentally friendlier choice compared to older refrigerants.
Physical size: about 448 mm in length, 330 mm in width, and 440 mm in height.
Weight is approximately 18.6 kilograms
Cooling capacity in power terms is often listed around 400 watts in some sources.
Advantages of using Hailea HC 300-A
Solid performance for a mid-sized tank or system (≈ 300 litres), especially in moderate ambient temperatures or where lighting/heat load isn’t extreme.
Titanium heat exchanger ensures good resistance to corrosion, making the HC 300-A usable for saltwater aquariums.
Good control & precision: Digital temperature controller, display typically accurate to 0.1 °C, allowing fine adjustments and steady maintenance of set temperature.
Reasonably compact and moderately lightweight for its capacity, making installation more flexible.
Uses R-134a refrigerant, which is better environmentally than many older refrigerants.
Dual hose outlet sizes (19 mm & 25 mm) allow flexibility in plumbing arrangements.
Considerations
Because it’s a mid-range model, if the heat input is high (strong lighting, warm ambient temperature, large margin between desired and room temperature), it may run often and push its limits. Oversizing or ensuring some margin is advisable.
Pumps used in the system must be capable of providing adequate flow (1,000-2,500 L/h). If flow is less, cooling performance will drop.
The unit may produce noise/vibration – though designed to be relatively quiet, placement and mounting matter. Good ventilation is needed around the unit so that the rejected heat doesn’t build up.
Power consumptions under load, though modest compared to larger models, may still be significant depending on usage hours.
Ambient temperature and heat load (e.g. from lighting, sun exposure) will affect performance—actual cooling may be less if conditions aren’t ideal.
Ideal Use Cases
Aquariums up to about 300 litres, especially freshwater or saltwater systems that require stable temps but aren’t extremely large.
Hydroponic systems or grow setups where water temperature stabilization is important but extreme cooling isn't needed.
Environments where space is moderate and you need a unit that is manageable in size but still powerful.
Situations where titanium build and corrosion resistance matter (saltwater, mixed systems).
Settings where precise control is desired (e.g. coral, delicate species, certain plant roots) and budget or space doesn’t allow for the larger chiller immediately.
