Description
ReefCans 40 - Red Sea
More RO water for less floor space
The ReefCan 40 is an auto top-off (ATO) reservoir designed to store RO/DI (reverse osmosis / deionized) water and feed it into your saltwater / reef aquarium system automatically to compensate for evaporation.
Unlike many bulky “bucket” style reservoirs, the ReefCan series leverages vertical space (i.e., height) so you can hold more water without using up valuable floor or bench space.

Elegant.
The ReefCans utilize the most unused dimension in your system’s cabinet, which is height, resulting in more RO water for less valuable floor space.
The ReefCans can fit in the gap beside your sump. Even in Red Sea´s Reefer 170 & 200 models and can easily connected to any ATO systems.
It can probably slide in nicelybehind your cabinet as well.
Specifications
Capacity / Volume: 40 liters (≈ 10.6 US gallons)
Dimensions: Approximately 22″ high × 7″ wide × 20″ deep (i.e. about 55 cm × 17 cm × 50 cm)
Material & Build: Made from transparent plastic so the water level is visible, with an embedded water scale to show how much RO water remains.
Openings & Access: Has two main openings — a front lid for easy refill access, and a rear access opening for routing tubes, pumps, and cables. This design allows you to refill without disconnecting plumbing or cables.
ATO Pump / Cable Compatibility: The rear opening is large enough to allow an ATO pump with a diameter up to approximately 2.3 inches to pass through.
Designed for ReefATO+: While it works with many ATO systems, the ReefCan 40 is specifically tailored to accommodate the ReefATO+ siphon breaker / system, allowing you to set up the cables and plumbing in a fixed way such that you rarely need to disconnect them except for pump maintenance.
Space Efficiency: Because of its tall and relatively narrow profile, it fits beside or behind sumps, or in cabinets, using unused vertical space instead of requiring more floor footprint.
Visible Level Monitoring: Transparent walls and embedded scale allow you to see how much water is left at a glance, without opening the container.

Practical.
The ReefCans have a transparent plastic body with an embedded water scale, so you can see exactly how much water you have left.
Performance
The ReefCan 40 can typically hold enough RO water to maintain an aquarium’s top-off needs for about one week for a medium to larger reef setup (e.g., approx. 500 liters) before needing refill.
It is suitable to be placed either inside a cabinet next to the sump or outside/behind the cabinet, depending on space constraints and plumbing layout.
When used with ReefATO+, once correctly installed, the system tends to require minimal further intervention—cabling and tubing can remain in place, and routine maintenance is made easier because you don’t have to disassemble to refill.

Convenient.
The front opening is positioned so you can easily fill up the reservoir without moving it.
In addition, you will no longer need to fiddle with any tubes or cables, as there is a second opening at the rear just for this.

While suitable for most ATO systems, the ReefCan is specifically designed to hold the ReefATO+ syphon breaker.
Once you set up the cables, you won’t need to disconnect them except for an occasional pump maintenance.
Compatibility with Red Sea Systems
Not all Red Sea reef tank models support the ReefCan 40; smaller systems may require the ReefCan 18 version instead.
In Red Sea’s compatibility tables, many smaller “REEFER” or “MAX” models list compatibility “YES” for ReefCan 40 only for certain sizes; for very small systems, the 40 L unit might not be suitable.
Because it is tall and narrow, you should check that your cabinet or sump area has the height clearance and the ability to route tubing without sharp bends.
While the transparent design is helpful, you should avoid exposing the plastic to strong UV over time, which could degrade it.
