Description

ReefCans 18 - Red Sea

More RO water for less floor space

The ReefCan 18 is an auto top-off (ATO) reservoir designed to store purified water (RO/DI) and feed it into a marine or reef aquarium system to compensate for evaporation. It’s a more compact version of the ReefCan series (compared to the ReefCan 40), optimized for systems with more limited space or lower top-off volume needs.

Instead of using a wide “bucket” style container, ReefCan 18 takes advantage of vertical space. Its tall, narrow shape allows it to hold significant water volume while occupying minimal floor area.

Elegant.

The ReefCans utilize the most unused dimension in your system’s cabinet, which is height, resulting in more RO water for less valuable floor space.

The ReefCans can fit in the gap beside your sump.  Even in Red Sea´s Reefer 170 & 200 models and can easily connected to any ATO systems.

It can probably slide in nicelybehind your cabinet as well.

Specifications

  • Volume / Capacity: Holds 18 liters (about 4.8 US gallons) of RO/DI water.

  • Dimensions: It measures 22 inches (≈ 55 cm) tall, 3.5 inches (≈ 9 cm) wide, and 17 inches (≈ 44 cm) deep.

  • Pump / Opening Size: The rear opening (for the ATO pump, tubing, and cables) accommodates pumps up to 2.3 inches (≈ 5.8 cm) in diameter.

  • Transparent Body & Water Scale: The reservoir is made of clear plastic, with an embedded scale that allows you to visually monitor how much water remains without opening it.

  • Front & Rear Openings: There is a front lid for easy refill access, and a rear access opening for routing ATO pump tubing and cables without needing to disconnect them.

  • ReefATO+ Compatibility: The design is made to accommodate Red Sea’s ReefATO+ siphon breaker / system. The capping and openings are set so that once the cables and plumbing are installed, you typically don't have to disconnect them again (except for pump maintenance).

Practical.

The ReefCans have a transparent plastic body with an embedded water scale, so you can see exactly how much water you have left.

Function

  • In typical use, ReefCan 18 can top off an average 200-liter tank for about one week, given normal evaporation levels.

  • Because of its slender profile, it can often fit in narrow gaps beside a sump or slide behind/alongside a cabinet with minimal footprint impact.

  • The dual-opening design allows refilling without removing or disconnecting plumbing, making routine maintenance easier.

Convenient.

The front opening is positioned so you can easily fill up the reservoir without moving it.

In addition, you will no longer need to fiddle with any tubes or cables, as there is a second opening at the rear just for this.

While suitable for most ATO systems, the ReefCan is specifically designed to hold the ReefATO+ syphon breaker.

Once you set up the cables, you won’t need to disconnect them except for an occasional pump maintenance.

Compatibility

  • The ReefCan 18 is compatible with many Red Sea REEFER (G2/G2+) systems, especially the smaller ones (e.g. REEFER 170, 200, 250) where the larger ReefCan 40 might not physically fit or be specified.

  • Because it is narrower, its horizontal footprint is much smaller, but depth clearance should still be checked to ensure it does not collide with other equipment or plumbing behind the reservoir.

  • The pump opening size (2.3" / 5.8 cm) must be considered: ensure your ATO pump and tubing can physically pass through or fit the back opening.

  • While sufficient for moderate evaporation loads, in very large tanks, or in setups with high evaporation, the 18 L reservoir may require more frequent refills or might be borderline under-sized; in those cases, the 40 L version may be better suited.
