Description
Formula One Marine Pellet 100g – Ocean Nutrition
Formula One Marine Pellet 100g from Ocean Nutrition are formulated as a high-protein, soft and moist slow-sinking pellet food for carnivorous and omnivorous marine tropical fish.
The idea is to deliver a nutrition profile closer to what predatory marine species would consume in nature (i.e. more seafood / animal protein content) while maintaining digestibility and water clarity.
Major Ingredients
The pellet includes a range of marine and functional ingredients, such as:
Fish meal, fish fillets, shrimp meal, krill, squid
Marine algae (spirulina) and other marine-based ingredients for pigment & health
Wheat flour (as a binder / energy source)
Lecithin, brewer’s yeast, garlic
Vitamins, minerals, amino acids
Antioxidants and preservatives (e.g. calcium propionate, potassium sorbate, natural tocopherols)
From Ocean Nutrition site, the composition is given more generically as “shrimp, fish fillets, krill, refined fish oils, marine fish eggs, marine algae, squid, lecithin, yeast, spirulina, garlic, select amino acids, etc.”
According to Ocean Nutrition’s published figures:
Crude Protein: 41.1 % (minimum)
Crude Fat: 12.3 % (minimum)
Crude Fiber: 0.2 % (maximum)
Moisture: 18.9 % (maximum)
Ash: 9.7 % (maximum)
Phosphorus: 0.5 % (minimum)
Properties of Formula One Marine Pellet
Texture & sinking behavior: Soft, moist, slow-sinking pellets that allow fish time to graze rather than having to swallow immediately.
Water characteristics: When used in proper quantities, these pellets are claimed not to cloud the water.
Packaging: Sealed in nitrogen-flushed jars / foil to limit exposure to oxygen and preserve freshness.
Available sizes: Small (~1.2 mm), Medium (~3.1 mm), XL (~8 mm) pellet sizes.
The 100 g SKU corresponds to the small pellet jar.
Usage Guidelines
Feed 1 to 3 times per day, offering only what the fish can eat in ~5 minutes.
Remove uneaten pellets promptly to prevent decay and water quality issues.
Store in a cool, dry place, sealed, and use within about 4 months after opening.
Suitable Species
This pellet is best suited for fish that require higher levels of animal protein:
Carnivorous and omnivorous marine fish: e.g., Angelfish, Anthias, Basslets, Blennies, Butterflies, Cardinals, Clowns, Chromis, Gobies, Puffers, Pseudochromis, Wrasses, etc.
Also useful for invertebrates such as small crabs and shrimps.
It can function as a staple diet, especially for fish which demand higher protein, though many aquarists still rotate in frozen/meaty foods for variety.
Advantages of using Formula One Marine Pellet
Provides rich marine protein sources (shrimp, fish fillets, krill, squid) that appeal to predatory species.
Soft & moist texture enhances palatability and helps with digestion.
Supports coloration via inclusion of pigment boosters like spirulina and carotenoids.
Low waste: Because digestion is easier, less undigested output is produced, helping reduce aquarium pollution.
Stable water clarity: When used properly, doesn’t significantly cloud the water.
Good versatility: usable by a wide range of protein-needing fish.
Considerations
Storage & freshness sensitivity: Because the pellets are moist and packed to preserve freshness, exposure to air, humidity, or poor sealing after opening can degrade the quality, cause hardening, nutrient loss, or spoilage.
Overfeeding risk: Any uneaten pellets will sink and decompose, which can raise ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and contribute to oxygen depletion or algal blooms.
Not ideal for strict herbivores: Fish that rely heavily on plant / algae diets may not benefit optimally from such a protein-rich formula; they might need a diet richer in plant matter.
Pellet size matters: Using too large a pellet for small fish may lead to wasted food or feeding stress; conversely, too small a pellet for large fish could cause overconsumption and increased waste.
Diet diversity: Even high-quality pellets may not provide every micronutrient or variation fish need long-term, so many keepers supplement with frozen or live foods to ensure a balanced diet.
Transition & acceptance: Some fish may be reluctant to accept pellets initially, especially if accustomed to different food types—mixing, gradual introduction, or attractant use may help.
